    Sisters Who Make Waves and Contemporary Female Identity

    The online variety show Sisters Who Make Waves has rapidly become highly popular and is one of many online shows dominated by young idols creating a group portrait of many successful sister identities. Various film and television dramas such as Nothing But Thirty and To Dear Myself have also depicted middle-aged and adult women. From the feminist perspective, mature and independent female images are a new feature of these online film and television shows. We found that women who participate in literary and creative activities are increasingly speaking in their own voices, that the sisters’ independent images have important cultural symbolic significance, and that these new images form an imagined community among the audience. However, we must be vigilant about the impact of new media’s commercialization on new women’s images

    Graph packing with constraints on edges

    A graph consists of a set of vertices (nodes) and a set of edges (line connecting vertices). Two graphs pack when they have the same number of vertices and we can put them in the same vertex set without overlapping edges. Studies such as Sauer and Spencer, Bollobas and Eldridge, Kostochka and Yu, have shown sufficient conditions, specifically relations between number of edges in the two graphs, for two graphs to pack, but only a few addressed packing with constraints. Kostochka and Yu proved that if e_1e_2 \u3c (1 - \eps)n^2, then G1G_1 and G2G_2 pack with exceptions. We extend this finding by using the language of list packing introduced by Gyori, Kostochka, McConvey, and Yager, and we show that the triple (G1,G2,G3)(G_1, G_2, G_3) with e_1e_2 + \frac{n-1}{2}\cdot e_3 \u3c (2 - \eps)\binom{n}{2} pack with well-defined exceptions

    Balancing the trade-off between cost and reliability for wireless sensor networks: a multi-objective optimized deployment method

    The deployment of the sensor nodes (SNs) always plays a decisive role in the system performance of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this work, we propose an optimal deployment method for practical heterogeneous WSNs which gives a deep insight into the trade-off between the reliability and deployment cost. Specifically, this work aims to provide the optimal deployment of SNs to maximize the coverage degree and connection degree, and meanwhile minimize the overall deployment cost. In addition, this work fully considers the heterogeneity of SNs (i.e. differentiated sensing range and deployment cost) and three-dimensional (3-D) deployment scenarios. This is a multi-objective optimization problem, non-convex, multimodal and NP-hard. To solve it, we develop a novel swarm-based multi-objective optimization algorithm, known as the competitive multi-objective marine predators algorithm (CMOMPA) whose performance is verified by comprehensive comparative experiments with ten other stateof-the-art multi-objective optimization algorithms. The computational results demonstrate that CMOMPA is superior to others in terms of convergence and accuracy and shows excellent performance on multimodal multiobjective optimization problems. Sufficient simulations are also conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the CMOMPA based optimal SNs deployment method. The results show that the optimized deployment can balance the trade-off among deployment cost, sensing reliability and network reliability.     A ketogenic diet in combination with gemcitabine increases survival in pancreatic cancer KPC mice

    Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) continues to be a major health problem. A ketogenic diet (KD), characterized by a very low carbohydrate and high fat composition, has gained attention for its anti-tumor potential. We evaluated the effect and mechanisms of feeding a strict KD alone or in combination with gemcitabine in the autochthonous LSL-KrasG12D/+; LSL-Trp53 R172H/+; Pdx1-Cre (KPC) mouse model. For this purpose, both male and female pancreatic tumor-bearing KPC mice were allocated to a control diet (CD; %kcal: 70% carb, 14% protein, 16% fat), a KD (%kcal: 14% protein, 1% carb, 85% fat), a CD + gemcitabine (CG), or a KD + gemcitabine (KG) group. Mice fed a KD alone or in combination with gemcitabine showed significantly increased blood β-hydroxybutyrate levels compared to mice fed a CD or CG. KPC mice fed a KG had a significant increase in overall median survival compared to KPC mice fed a CD (increased overall median survival by 42%). Interestingly, when the data was disaggregated by sex, the effect of a KG was significant in female KPC mice (60% increase in median overall survival), but not in male KPC mice (28% increase in median overall survival). Mechanistically, the enhanced survival response to a KD combined with gemcitabine was multifactorial, including inhibition of ERK and AKT pathways, regulation of fatty acid metabolism and the modulation of the gut microbiota. In summary, a KD in combination with gemcitabine appears beneficial as a treatment strategy in PDAC in KPC mice, deserving further clinical evaluation

    Precision Higgs physics at the CEPC

    The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics. The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program. At the same time, lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC, with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson. The Circular Electron Positron Collider~(CEPC) is one of such proposed Higgs factories. The CEPC is an e+ee^+e^- circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China. Located in a tunnel of approximately 100~km in circumference, it will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240~GeV as the Higgs factory. In this paper, we present the first estimates on the precision of the Higgs boson property measurements achievable at the CEPC and discuss implications of these measurements.Comment: 46 pages, 37 figure

    Technical College Students’ Practical Performance Anxiety during Online Learning: Difference in Gender and Average Time of Online Learning

    The person-artifact-task model provided us with a method to consider the practical performance anxiety (PPA) of technical college students who were working on a computer-related task via online learning. This study investigated 474 technical college students’ PPA in online courses without hands-on demonstration (PPAOC-without-HD) and with hands-on demonstration (PPAOC-with-HD), and it explored whether their PPA varied according to gender and average time spent on online learning. The results indicated that the students’ two types of PPA (PPAOC-without-HD and PPAOC-with-HD) varied significantly by gender and across the different online learning time groups. The average levels of participants’ two types of PPA were both high, and their PPAOC-without-HD was higher than their PPAOC-with-HD. Both types of PPA for females were significantly higher than those for males. Participants’ PPAOC-with-HD showed a significant difference for the average time of online learning. The findings of this study will be of value to educators who need to design and carry out online learning courses for technical college students

    Lateral Impact Response of Concrete-Filled Square Steel Tubes with Local Defects

    A numerical model of 84 high-strength concrete-filled square steel tubular columns (HSCFST) with local defects is developed using ABAQUS. The effects of parameters such as crack angle, crack length, impact surface and impact energy on the impact resistance of HSCFST columns are considered. The results show that under the effect of local corrosion, a model with horizontal cracks will show the phenomenon of crack closure when subjected to the front impact. The impact force platform value is mainly affected by the impact surface, followed by the crack angle, while the increase of the crack length mainly has a greater effect on the model of the rear impact. The impact resistance of the front impact model is better than that of the side and rear impact models. Increasing the crack length and decreasing the crack angle will increase the mid-span deflection of the model, and the mid-span deflection of the front impact model is smaller than that of the side and rear impact models. The energy absorption ratio of the model is proportional to the increase of the crack length and inversely proportional to the increase of the crack angle. Decreasing the crack angle will reduce the increase coefficient (Rd) of the dynamic flexural capacity of the model. A practical calculation method for the increased coefficient of the dynamic flexural capacity of HSCFST columns under local corrosion is proposed

    Evidence-Theory-Based Robust Optimization and Its Application in Micro-Electromechanical Systems

    The conventional engineering robustness optimization approach considering uncertainties is generally based on a probabilistic model. However, a probabilistic model faces obstacles when handling problems with epistemic uncertainty. This paper presents an evidence-theory-based robustness optimization (EBRO) model and a corresponding algorithm, which provide a potential computational tool for engineering problems with multi-source uncertainty. An EBRO model with the twin objectives of performance and robustness is formulated by introducing the performance threshold. After providing multiple target belief measures (Bel), the original model is transformed into a series of sub-problems, which are solved by the proposed iterative strategy driving the robustness analysis and the deterministic optimization alternately. The proposed method is applied to three problems of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), including a micro-force sensor, an image sensor, and a capacitive accelerometer. In the applications, finite element simulation models and surrogate models are both given. Numerical results show that the proposed method has good engineering practicality due to comprehensive performance in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and convergence
